Need Trans Cover 1978 KZ1000 Z1R

Anyone have an extra trans cover (behind countershaft sprocket) you would be willing to sell and ship to me? I had a chain break on me several years ago on the stock motor that damaged the original cover and just switched motors out at that time. I want to go back stock, possibly restore, and need that cover to assemble the engine. I am not in a big hurry but just got my carbs back so I am about ready to get started on it. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

I think you'll find that any 900 or 1015 motor will have the cover that your looking for, :laugh: but I don't have one.

i have a couple of extra 900/1000 engines but im not really sure of the part you need,got a pic?

What year Z1R?

If this is the cover being sought, here is a pic from Kawasaki.com parts diagram which shows different transmission cover part numbers for 1979KZ1000A3 and 1980KZ1000-A4.



#23 is 1979KZ1000A3 PN14025-1106. #23-1 is 1980KZ1000-A4 PN14025-5028.

Different part numbers are also shown for the respective gaskets.

Possibly they are all interchangeable, but without knowing for sure, would be very specific as to the year and model needed.

EDIT (correction): 1978 KZ1000-D1 is first Z1R model. 1979 KZ1000-D2 is second Z1R model. See later posts in this thread.

Sorry - I though in my original post I put that it was a '78, so I edited it to reflect that.

You were correct, and I was wrong :blush: with some of the model designations. Sorry about confusing things. Actually, the 1978 KZ1000 Z1R (the first cafe racer model) is a D1. The 1979 KZ1000 Z1R (cafe racer) is a D2.

Having failed to find a parts diagram in Kawasaki.com specifically covering the D1, I figured the transmission cover would be identical in any same year KZ1000 model.

Will back up and give another look.

EDIT: Kawasaki.com includes the Z1R under 1978 listings, but does not include the Z1R under 1979 listings. Go figure. :S

Giving another try -- here is the 1978 KZ1000-D1 (first cafe racer model) parts diagram excerpt from Kawasaki.com showing #21 transmission cover having part number 14025-1106 (which replaced an earlier part number) and showing #22 gasket having part number 14058-004.
