Do you have to run one, or will it be ok to just use silicone?

Would recommend using a new gasket to better assure against leaks and probably having to again R/R the pan. :)

Wonder if this assembly used any gaskets.

I´d recommend a gasket too - and in my mind silicone does not belong in a motorcycle engine, ever.

They sell a permanent bonding agent called yamabond that would work, but be a bugger to get off. I recommend you go to Auto Zone and get some of their 1/32" thick gasket material that is the rubberized fiber material. I recall the paper had "N8904" on the back and was made by Interface Solutions. I used it for the valve cover, oil pan, and cylinder base gasket. Works great. Trace one out and get after it with an X-acto knife. If you screw one up, cut another. The paper is cheap.

You're more talented and patient than I am. Just bite the bullet and get a gasket through Kawasaki, and don't forget the 3 (I think) rubber seals that seal the pan to the engine too. They will leak if you don't replace them. Don't mean anything bad here, if you can make your own gaskets that's great too.

If I am going to pay that kind of money to be abused, it better be by a beautiful woman in high heels and leather....

I'm not trying to be argumentative, but I am curious. Why wouldn't something like Permatex #598 RTV work? I've ised it on cars before with no problems, but those were steel pans to cast iron blocks. Is there something about aluminum to aluminum that creates a problem?

A little trick, I've been using, is to scan whatever gaskets I buy, into the computer. That way, if I need a new gasket, I can print it on the gasket material and then cut out, using scissors &/or razor.

Was the dealer wearing a gun and mask? I would never go back to that dealer!

Here's aftermaket gasket from Z1E

Aftermarket Gasket

Here's genuine Kawasaki from Ron Ayers (plug in part number 11009-1983 I think)
