deal or steal? was created by saxjonz
Just bought a 1980 kz1000ltd for 1200 with 7300 miles on the od all original cept it has a kerker pipe on it but the original pipes are in a box in the garage along with two new saddlemen bags and a box of unopened progressive springs and other assorted parts.

Been sitting a couple of years in Cali a seventy year old man had plans of restoration so he took all the chrome off and had it polished but hurt his back so was forced to sell this bike.

Tell me what you all think of this. Now I can keep one stock to mildly modified and the other 1200 kit to take out for those cool evenings that we have here in Chicago. I am stoked. Now I just got get her here from Cali. Two thousand miles away from taking the other engine out and going to town with the powdercoating and paint job and engine rebuild.

I like the option of being able to take my time to do it right and slow so my finances aren't seemingly squandered in an instant.

Yea, pics are fixed now. The guy wanted 1675 and he was firm on the bike but when my brother who lives in Laguna Hills approached him he has a knack for talking people far down on the price of bikes and got him down. That and the fact that the guy lives in Newport Beach, I bet the neighbors probably thought he was a nut case for having such an eyesore in the neighborhood. You know how rich people are about things like that.
I was sold at 1675 or even more. There is one in northern cali by san fran that I wanted to buy that is really clean green and runs well with new rubber for 2000 or best offer I think his email is dirtmagnit@hotmail.com if you are interested. It has a corbin saddle nice pipe the bike looks really clean from the pics. Since you live in Cali you could go and get it.
The pics were bigger when my brother sent them to me but I will see if I can repost them bigger.

550 wide is the max width on pics, or you really mess up the thread formatting.

The one I fixed above is 550 wide.

The only two thoughts I have at the moment are to ship it or ride it or drive up and bring it back. Riding it back appeals to me more as I have always wanted to ride to California but never did because I have found that the times I have driven one way is fine but on the way back is no fun most of the time. I have driven four times and on the way back is like the morning after with a massive hangover I say "Oh never again."
Realistically I have given thought to driving up with a truck and hauling it back. Just gotta find a truck. I have a week off for spring break I could do it.
How much do you think it would be to ship it? That option probably might be the most realistic one as the bike is most likely going to need some time to get going.

Thanks Steell. That was nice of you. Did you go to photobucket and check out the 22 somewhat pics of the bike?

I checked out the pics but I didn't (and don't) know if they were pics of the same bike. A lot (well, it seems that way anyway) us have more than one project bike torn apart at the same time, and pics of both on Photobucket.

So I just just picked out the best complete bike pic to post. :D

I have been checking out bike shipping for awhile now, and the best deal I have found is Forward Air, you might check with Allied (Allied Van Lines) as well.

I'd guess around $600-$700 to Chicago.

But if you do decide to take a truck and pick it up, I'd really appreciate it if you would stop in Omaha NE and pick up a bike for me

Maybe that could work out. I am, if I go, leaving Mar14th and on the way back if I could fit two in the back of whatever truck I can get would be able to do that no prob. And yes that is the one bike. So instead of buying a new Ducati and spending lots of money on a bike that is new I am going to have two, three beasts in my garage that will have me spend even more money. My friend had 30 bikes at one point in time. Makes me wonder if I will end up like him. Yikes....
Where do you live?
