Back to normal(abit) 6th gear? was created by kzwolfsr
Well I posted about my kz1000 having trouble shifting. Its back to normal now a little but I can live with it. I can shift up through all the gears as normal but when down shifting, I have to wave my foot under the shifter lightly as to lift it into position then downshift each time. But hey thanks to the guys that gave me suggestions, they were much appreciated and scarey and I suspect its a spring playing the fool. I it today and man I forgot how much power my 1000 has since I barely rode it during the winter. Question? Am I the only guy here that thinks the 1000's at least need a 6th gear, if my bike can shift into that one?

A sixth gear in most of these bikes would be nice, that's where changing the sprocket ratio comes in, but you have to forfeit low speed torque or top speed a little. But, these engines do like to rev.. ;) ;)

What would be the best for fast at less rpms? I have a 16/41 setup. This dont answer. better discussed in chassis. Sorry KZR!

Going with a 17/41 or a 16/43 would gain you a higher top speed at lower RPM's, but you will loose some of your bottom end torque leaving from a stop.

I went one tooth larger (16T to a 17T) on my 650 to gain a higher speed and drop the RPM's (roughly dropped about 500 RPM's lower at any given speed) and it worked nicely, and I didn't even notice any bottom end loss either. :)
