Reed valve breathers

My kz 750E that I just got not too long ago as a winter project has just one tube running from one reed valve on the cam cover to the other. What kind of effect does this have on the motor, and performance? I know that it is supposed to have one from each valve that join together in a y connector and that tube runs to the airbox. Furthermore, the tube that comes off the airbox that attaches to the breather on the case is not there either. I am just curious if these are things that really have no effect on the performance or do these things need to be addressed? Thanks for all of you help in advance. I Love this place!!

All that was foe emission standards back in the day.
You can leave the hose going from reed valve to reed valve and just plug the hole on the airbox.

It runs the same as if the emission stuff was all there and brand new. As the control valve aged and broke, the bike would start backfiring on deceleration, pretty loudly. If you want it to look prettier, you can block off the ports individually, or put block-off plates in place of the port plates. I made my own, but you can buy them too. The reed valves in there are part of an assembly which has the seals on it, so I left the reeds in there.

Lazy... I guess :P

Actually, I still need to finish cutting them before I polish. I want to wittle out the aluminum between the bolts to get better access to the other valve-cover bolts below them. Yeah... that's my story.

The reed valves cover a hole that dumps fresh air into the exhaust port for emissions purposes, like stated above, it has zero effect on performance.

Just don't remove the read valves without blocking the holes or you will be pumping exhaust into your crankcase :)

Right on, thanks again for all the help. No one really addressed it but I assume that the breather comming from the case can also be plugged?

Nope -- don't plug the breather. The crankcase needs to breathe. Could just attach a vent hose and run it underneath the bike (the larger hose shown). The smaller hose is just a drain from bottom of the air box which also runs underneath the bike. :)
