Trick New Exhaust Idea was created by bkitchen
Here are some pics of my exhaust idea I had. First off if the previous owner had not drilled a hole in my Kerker I probably wouldn't have done it. But it was there for some reason so I took advantage of it. The idea was to be able to cap off the exhaust or run it wide open with the flip of a switch. Here are the first pictures I made an aluminum disc with a shaft. I bought a flange mounted bearing from Grainger to install it and for rotation. Right now I just have it running on a manual choke cable to open or close. It is cold here so when it warms up I will get a video. The sound difference is about like haveing the endcap in or out not the whole baffle. But there is a noticeable differnce. Here is the first pic of the parts.

I am looking for some kind of actuator or solenoid to open it up. I thought about maybe using a power door lock actuator but I am not sure if it has enough power. Any ideas here for a push button opener? I need about 1/2" stroke also.

Interesting, I remember when (might still) they had something like that for car headers. Whoops, they still do!

That is pretty inventive. How about something like a vaccumm choke pull off they used on carburetors. Give it full vaccum off one of the carb manifolds, which could hold it closed. Then when you give it full throttle and the vacumm drops it would open up with a spring.

The idea is to be able to ride around with it closed and quieter and then when I pull in next to the Harley guys open it up and blast them.

I like Milkman's idea but with what you have in mind, sounds like a good old fashioned choke cable mounted to the handle bars or front frame would do the trick.

you may quiet it down some more if you were to pack some fiber glass on the backside...
Does the bike run noticeably different between the two settings?

Haven't tested much. I'm not sure if putting the fiberglass backing on would work when in the open position. Hmm I could hook the cable up to the throttle cam on the carbs then the more I rev the louder it gets!!
