Engine differences 1973 and 1974

Hi I'm restoring my 73 z1 and found there are a lot of engined diferences internaly and externally can any one tell me some of the differences as I have two engines that were taken a part and one is 74 and the other 73. The cover for the front chain sprokets are different one cover has the shifting numbers stamped on it and the other does not; one engine is black other not; one engine has a differnet base block and cylinder gasket. Is there any other differences and which engine has the shifting stamped on the front sproket cover. Plese let me know as I'm trying to restore everything to 73 specific. Thanks

There are several message boards around the world which focus only on the Z1, Z1A, Z1B and KZ900 (or Z900). These boards tend to have the serious restorers who can point out the small and somewhat obscure differences between models that allow correctness in a restoration project. I can help you with carburetor differences. There are very small differences in the carburetors for the early 73 models and later in the year models, for instance but if I were restoring a Z1 and needed help with this type detail, and I lived in the US, I would check out:
