10 Feb 2008 15:47
Hi and thanks for the great info that I have received from you guys. My questions are I need to know the torque on a set of used APE cylinder studs and also what sealant do you recommend To use when assembling the engine cases of a kz 1000. Thanks

I like too use 3bond or this stuff
Aviation Form-A-Gasket® Sealant Liquid (3H)
problem with silicon is just hurneates out the sides and creates a poor seal. The 3bond and the aviation gasket sealants are easy too clean also. What i do is apply it too both surfaces and then to both sides of the gaskets.
I am told that they really do use it on air crafts... gotta be good stuff I suppose then.

I use "ThreeBond liquid gasket 1004"
Yamaha sells the same stuff except they call it
YamahaBond ,,,and it's NOT $30 unless your being ripped off.
Just about any motorcycle catalog place will have it in the tools section.
Its gray ,comes in a tube ,,,,,,,,
It just works.
Check the APE website for the stud specs.

ape cyl studs go in at 40 ft lbs.use red locktite.yamabond seems to be popular for cases . if u use oem gaskets u should not need gasket glue. if u use aftermarket u will.

Like I said, that was the price at the Kawi dealer. So, it goes without saying that buying it there would be getting ripped off.....
If I go back to the dealer, I'll check and see what it is they are selling. I just remember a small tube of something that was about $25 plus tax.

I use Yamabond, when I can find it.

'cause the H-D dealer keeps buying all of it.
Don't know how serious the guy was but it makes sense to me!
