Barnett clutch adjustment? was created by love2ride
P/O did tell me that he had a Barnett clutch installed when having the KZ1000 restored.

It has always been slightly difficult to pull the clutch handle in. Like using those grip strengthening devices. Man after a ride thru traffic my forearm is burning.

Can this clutch be adjusted so that it will not be so hard to pull in? I thought maybe its the cable but its new. Only has a few hundred miles on it. It was hard for the p/o to pull in, and it hasnt gotten any easier.

Do I nede to deal with it or get an OEM clutch?

I think you just need to change the springs back to stock/aftermarket stock.

I'm sure somebody else will chime in to verify.

So the stock springs are good to go with the Barnett?

Stock springs with high performance clutch is okay?

Thanks guys

The springs are what gives you the lever feel. Light springs (factory) light pull, heavy springs, heavy pull. You may not realize the full potential of the Barrnet clutch with stock springs but the clutch is still better than factory. I've heard of a lot of drag racers using heavy duty clutch plates and stock springs.

Good to know.

I priced stock springs, they are not badly priced.

Thank you for the info.

Actually they are cheap. Z1 has a pack of 5 for $12.49

Real drag racers won't use anything other than stock plates.

Lorcan beat me to it. My buddy uses stock Kawasaki clutch plates in his 7 second Kawi drag bike.

I went through this. Aftermarket disks with stock springs slipped like crazy on my 550. The aftermarket springs were way too stiff to use in heavy traffic. (Your left arm would end up looking like Popeye's.)

I called 3 reputable shops and they each said the same thing: "Throw away any aftermarket clutch and use genuine Kawasaki parts only." (These were not kaw dealers either. They were independent shops.) They were all very adamant about it too. This is after I swapped plates, disks and springs several times. Finally after putting in new OEM disks and springs, the clutch felt like brand new... very light and no hint of slippage.

The Kaw parts cost about 30% to 50% more, but after doing A/B comparisons, I would have been willing to pay well over 100% more.
