shifting kz1000

Hello,
I'm a brand new member. I have a 82 kz1000 police. I'm in Wisconsin, and can't take my bike out until....
But, running or not, I can shift easily from neutral to first, but can't get the bike into 2nd or above. This may be a dumb question, but does the bike have to be moving to shift up to 2nd? I'm also, trying to customize the bike into a bobber. Any links or ideas would be appreciated. Thanks, Patrick

Yes the bike has to be moving to shift into second. I think Kawasaki calls it "positive neutral finder." It's been covered before here somewhere. But unless you disassemble the engine and mess with the tranny you're kinda stuck with it.

Welcome to the site
Yes, you guessed it. The bike has to be running /moving in order to go up to 2nd. It's a safety thing. Most of the kz's .... if not all, have this feature.

Hello Patrick...as for bobber style...go to the Members tab above, type in SandRacer, on his page click on the Gallery tab and look at what his idea of a modified P model is.

Thanks folks,
I love these forums. I joined one for everyone of my bikes, and am always amazed by your knowledge, and generousity. Now I can put my mind at rest.
