Oil all over the ass end of the bike

I Just had the 74 Z1 900 out on the highway today, and i had it up over 100 for a couple of seconds to "clear the carbon out", when i got to my girlfriends house there was oil on the swing arm and muffler, it looked like it spit out a bit of oil from the airbox, does this sound right? I dunno what happened, when i came home later, i opened it up again and hit about 110, got home and the was no oil on the ass end of the bike.

did you check the oil in motor?probably coming from crankcase vent.motor might be suffering some blow by,or might be over full.either way check your oil,it aint purdy when they run dry;)

when i went to top the oil off the other day, i think i added a bit to much. Cause its never did this before. I went out and checked the oil, and its right between the site marks on the window.

overfilled KZ engines will spill out at high revs

these roller engines are forgiving on a little bit lower oil level as long as you can see it in the window.

it probably got its own level set after 20-30 seconds at 8000 rpm..
how cold was the oil? did you get'er good and hot to the touch before riding it fast?


I overfilled a dry sump system once except I got about 3 qts too much in the tank and when the oil from inside the engine got pumping it all spilled over and I wrecked my bike. but that was a dry sump system that had a bad reverse flow check valve.

ya the engine was thourly warmed up before i left the house, i was on the highway for like 10 mins before i cranked it up
