kick start for 1981 kz750
15 Jan 2008 09:28
I found a kz650 kick start assembly and wanted to know if it can be retrofitted on my kz750. I think that may be my option right now. Can I use the cover plate from the kz650? How much does year matter?

Hi John, I was thinking along the same lines and came up dry...I am now fitting the entire Z750 top end onto a Z650 bottom just so I can have a kickstart. With the 2 engines stripped side by side I have to say it certainly looks like parts are interchangable. The clutch cover is obviously different for the kickstart with an opening and oil seal.
I am aware there are differences in the timing chain for differnt models/years however I seem to be lucky having a late model 650 with Hi-Vo chain in both engines. Bound to be some difference in the number of gears if nothing else....I am going to leave the gears well alone!
