Kick starter shaft removal question was created by galaxian
Am I going to have to split cases or is there another way i can remove the entire shaft and gear? Maybe from the oil pan (i hope)??? On the Kawasaki site i can see the diagram but not in relation to the cases themselves.

I can't say for sure on the 650 in your sig but for the 1000, you have to yank engine and split cases. The kicker shaft connects directly by a gear drive to 1st gear in the tranny.

On the 650 you will have to split the cases too - even though you can remove the kick start shaft bracket and collar from the outside the kick start ratchet is too big to pass between the output shaft and the bottom of the case and thereĀ“s also the kick start stopper plate and rear oil galley to consider. To get the kick starter shaft out it needs to be tilted like shown in the pic below. No way around it, sorry.

Why would you want to remove the kick starter? I would LOVE to ADD one to my 82 1100. I remember the kick start got me out of a bind several times on my old 80 KZ1000.

Guys thanks for the info. yeah its for the 1000 and i want to remove it beacuse its not really needed. Sure once in a while i may kick it, but mostly i use the starter. Worst case bump start it.
