im suprised nobody mentioned adding a small second battery you can hide somewhere and go with a 24v starting circuit. really helps bike bikes start, especially when hot. the rest of the bike is still 12v....
for example on a zx12r that had a 1361 kit with about 13:1 compression ratio(pump gas) sometimes had trouble starting when hot. switched to 24v. problem solved. now hes running a 1427, over 16:1 compression ratio(c44 race gas) still starts fine....

kinda like a diesel, good idea if you have the roomB)

all great ideas guys thanks.
i just bought a mk11 crank and sent it in for a rebuild, new bearings true and weld.
i bought a used honda starter. it sounds like i may have the starting isue solved. if thats not enought i will try 24 volts. Thanks
i'm also going to try to add more suport on top of the main bearing suport plate.
i would love to hear an actual tep #, for normal running and hot and tooooo hot? i had an oven thermometer in the oil galery last summer on my 1135cc(just drilled a hole in the cap bolt and siliconed the thermometer in). it ran at about 180*f. When i ran hard it would go off the scale wich only went to 220*.i boght a proper gauge last week, but it doesnt have a outer cover.it was meant for a dash mount.i'll have to make something?thinking of rolling a cylinder up out of .010" brass shim stock and soldering a bottom round into it??

I thought from the title of this thread that he wanted to know how you start a big block.

I was ready to answer " Well you take the casting over to the milling machine.....":P :P

haha nice one Jay, now get back to work on the prototype removable cylinder block/cases for the 14:woohoo: :P it is started right???
I know Rob said you cant go with a big block like his 1317(on the psycho board) but you could make it available as stock, or 2 or 3 mm over right?

getting back on topic, theres room for a(second) battery under the tank on a 900/1000 frame above the coils. you dont need a big one.;)

oh, about the temp, have you though about making your oil pan hold more and putting an oil cooler on the bike?

im going to mod my 12s oil pan to hold more. the 4-2 section of the muzzy pipe vs stock pipe is higher upstream, leaving a big gap where i can add volume to the pan where the stock pipe used to go.
have any pics of your pan with the pipe mounted? i bet theres room for the pan to grow some.

no pics.the bike is all in pieces right now. i supose there probably is room on 1 side.it would just have to be very strong to avoide a puncture.i will give that some thought when i get the motor back in and pipe in place.i just saw a turbo punp with an extention tube go for $30 on ebay. 1st 1 ive seen.i bought 3 pumps so i can rebuild 1 with the best parts(tightest clearance).

your oil pan can extend down in any area theres nothing under it(frame or pipe) as far as the bottom of the pipe. you will still have the same ground clearance, you just make better use of the available space.
you can use valve lapping compound on a piece of glass(not much else is that easy to find that flat or common) to shave down the sides of the pump to tighten up the clearance

thats a great idea for the pump.i changed the gasket last year from a .006" to a .003" .maybe i can take off a thow or so.ive heard if u remove the gasket it may bind. im triing to find tighter gear clearances with the other pumps.

i guess its pretty common on (well built) turbo bikes that need every oiling trick in the book. set it up with the clearance close to the tightest you can go, its only going to get wider with use
