Well i got her out today and she was running great. I just put on my new electronic ignition and that open V&H was singing, when i heard the rod start knocking and she seized and spurted a bunch of oil out of the breather. Im a broke 19 year old college student and i just dont have the money to fix it. I have a rediculous amount of time and a money, more time than money, and its just a big dissapointment and doesnt really make me mad, just sad i guess. Idk...my venting is over. This sucks.

That really sucks bro. What do you think happened? Must have been starved for oil for some reason. If it were just bearings or a sloppy rod then you would have heard them a long time ago. Are you going to fix, sell or part it out? Where are you located? Maybe someone here can give you hand fixing it or buy it from you.

i have a lower half i can donate to a good cause.

Im for sure going to fix it. I have another bottom end in the garage that only has 7xxx on it. I think it just threw a rod bearing, got hot and finally just siezed up. After i let her cool she turned over so im almost positive it was a rod bearing. i was just trying to get home before she went. I have a Big Block 78 malibu i need to finish and thats what gets all of my money right now. so the kaw will be getting slowly done. It should be back on the road by summer.

What a shame. I feel for you.
So it seized up. If I was you I'd strip the top end down, that won't cost anything and have a good look at what damage there is.

If it hasn't thrown the rod then you might be able to get it running on the cheap.
Find the cause of the seizure first. Could you get away with a new rod bearing.
Do you still have your old pistons at all? Perhaps they could be brought back into service with a cheap set of cylinders.

Yea, i dont feel like it tonight, and i have to work tomorrow but tuesday i will tear down the top end. that will be no problem. I am almost sure it is a rod bearing. But i have a whole other engine still all put together minus the top end so its not as bad as previously thought. If the cylinders are still in good shape i will use my current jugs and 720 pistons. Question, are the wrist pins press fit or floating, i havent ever looked. If they are floating then it makes it easier to change the pistons over. Im starting to find the bright side in all of this. Ill be ok. Thanks alot guys its great to know that i have support from people who share a common interest. I really think i might be in love with this motorcycle lol. i will never give up on it.

they float.
just remove the circlips and the wrist pins just push out.

bummer big time, glad to see you have a extra engine, I would pull the pan off of the donor and check the oil pump and the bottom end, dont want to have to do it twice

lol yea, i ended up going out to the garage pulled the pan off the donor bottom end and scraped the gunk off the pickup screen, there wasnt a whole lot just a little dirt, and i just checked everything out and it looks good. Question, should i use my clutch from the current engine, because this bottom end hasnt been started in 12 years. It tunred over smooth as glass but it wasnt run.
