Kz 400 Rings, Confused? was created by Shoey949
Let me preface my statement by saying that I am rebuilding the engine on a '78 KZ400 and that this is my first time doing an engine rebuild. I got the rings from sudco.com and they aren't the same as the rings that were on there. The stock oil ring has a "U" shaped cross -section with a slot in the center. None of the rings from sudco look like that but there is a brass ring-looking thing. I'm not really sure which one the oil ring is and if there is supposed to be any play for the oil ring. Or did I simply get the wrong rings, the part# on the box checks with the website, so I don't know what is going on.

Thanks for the help!

the old style oil scrape ring, which is the lowest did consist of indeed a U shaped onepiece ring. Nowdays most of them are 3 piece rings... 2 thin ones and between them you put the brass folded ring..
