Air Injection System was created by Ericstoy
Hello,
I am a proud new owner of a KZ 650. I am in the process of restoring this bike. The pervious owner has removed the air box, air injection system, and replaced the air filters with pods. But when he did he has never sealed up the outlet for the air injection. Does anyone know if anyone makes a block off plate or some caps I can place on these openings?

Also, can someone tell me which KZ I have. On the frame it is stamped KZ650B036314 and the motor has KZ650E075Z87. I am assuming this is a KZ650B2, but please let me know if I am wrong or what it is that I do have.

Thank you

Eric

Ericstoy, there are no block off plates available (1000's only) for the 650. Myself and others here just put caps on inlets or run a hose inlet to inlet. Any rubber caps or automotive heater hose works just fine. I have blue hose to match my bike (anal!)

Most likely a B2. I had one that year and that's what it was. I don't think they got resl fancy with diffrent models in the 650 class until like 80 or 81 when they started offering more styles the same year.

Nope, just went to bikebandit.com. They list no less than 5 models for 650's in 1978
650 Custom (KZ650C2)
650Sr (KZ650D1
650SR (KZ650D1A)
KZ650 (KZ650B2)
and simply KZ650 (KZ650)

Could be any one of those, but because the letter "B" is in the VIN I would think it is in fact a B2 model. They only seemed to have offered the B2 that year ( as opposed to a B1 or B3 in '1978 as well, not to say hey didn't offer the B2 other years.) and I remember once running across a junked '78 "D" model when looking for parts for my B2. We figured out it was a "D" because it had D on the VIN and we checked title records. I assume the same goes for the "B"'s.

Can you post a pic? ( See Non-Bike Related Forum - "About this site" thread)

Welcome to KZr Eric. :)

If your 650 has the reed ports on the valve cover, and unless the PO of your bike swapped out the valve cover, then it's most definately a '79 (B3) model.
And as Bluemeanie stated, most of us have either capped the ports off, run a hose from one port to the other, or got creative and fabbed block-off plates out of aluminum for a nice, clean look.

FWIW, all of the KZ models that I'm aware of that were manufactured from July of each year were actually the following years model (eg; production date on frame vin tag reads 07/78 = '79 year model).

Covina, So Calif!
78 KZ650-B2 = SOLD
84 ZN700 LTD = SOLD
84 ZX750 GPz = SOLD
89 GSX1100F Katana = SLEEPING :-/
20 VN1700 Vulcan Vaquero (the Blue Cowboy)
Looking for my next project KZ
