What is your guys opinion on the cylinder o-rings, needed or not? I wouldn't hesitate to put them in if Kawi wasn't so proud of them ( $7 apiece ). Do any of you have an extra set out of a vesra kit that you would part with?

Thanks and happy Holidays, Tom.

Sorry Patton I should have been more specific. The O-rings I'm refering to go around the base of the 4 cylinders and are suppose to prevent oil fropm seeping up the ouside of the cylinders.

Those clever Kawasaki engineers put those o-rings in there for a reason...replace them when you rebuild your bike. If you have not ever pulled your jugs before, it is fairly sure that the o-rings will be brittle.

can anyone post a pic of these o-rings you are talking about. I bought a gasket set for my rebuild, and there were 8 rubber deals, but i didnt use them because i didnt take any off during the build. Wasnt sure what they were, figured they were used in the crankcase or something.

jordan:

If you are referring to your 750, your bike doesn't have the cylinder base o-rings...they are typically found on old school KZ1000's:)

Most of the KZ 900/1000 gasket sets contain four thin orings that go under the sleeves where they go through the block. On 77 and some 78 models of the KZ1000 block, there is a thin channel where the orings go. On later blocks... late 78 and 79/80, the channel isn't there and the orings can't be used. The orings are orange in a Versa gasket kit. I personally would use them if there are channels for them under the sleeves.
