18 Dec 2007 18:09
ok guys these are suppose to be j head cams but do i see a tach gear on them ? would that make them a set of csr cams? do j head cams have more lft than early kz cams? or am i seeing things? as i have seen pics of j head cams that look like they have a "blank" for a gear but its not cut.

See the round boss with grooves in it between the cam gear and the first lobe to the right on the intake cam? That's how you tell the difference between J, LTD, and CSR cams.
I know that's in the manual because that's where I read it when I was searching for J cams (because J cams have more lift and duration than LTD or CSR cams).
Got stung on eBay with a set of LTD cams that were supposed to be J cams, then lucked out and got the even better 83-84 GPz1100 cams.
Since that set has the tach drive gear, I'd say they are CSR cams.

School Teacher, What do you teach?
I would get your hands on some 29mm smoothbores as you will notice a difference that you will no doubt like. I might actually sell the ones I have on my bike if I go 1327cc probably not but those are the hot set up for that bike stock or modified a bit.

Right on the Money info on the stock cam ID method as well.
Look at the boss for grooves. Model designation is as follows.
J Standard Model
Intake - One Groove
Exhaust - No Groove
1000 K[LTD]
Intake & Exhaust - 2 Grooves
1000 M[CSR]
Intake - Two Grooves
Exhaust - Tach Gear
K&M were 10* less duration than the J
