Base gasket renew Question was created by 2bskor
OK I still can't get the lower head off of the damn motor. I tapped it I beat it I put deep creep around it hell I even told it off a time or two:angry:

I MUST be missing a step a bolt or something. I went by my clymer step by step and still the thing is STUCK!!

The only thing that is left when you look down the cam chain hole is the front plastic cam chain guide with a phillips screw but I can't see that holding anything. It is not mentioned in the disassembly.

My motor has two pry points and no way will the head budge:angry:

Any suggestions ??

What's stuck exactly? Is it the cylinders - with the pistons inside? You already have the head off, correct?

Ya I have the head off. The lower part that houses the pistons and sleeves. The pistons aren't stuck they move freely. But the base gasket must have been glued or never changed and it is stuck.

have someone apply pressure to the pry point and then hit it like you mean it right above the pry piont, back and forth. use a rubber mallot with a harder head. Pre loading it with pry pressure is key

those two bolts hold the head on, on the 650's he already has the head off he is trying to get the cylinders off. The rubber mallet sounds like a good idea, maybe try turning the engine over being careful not to ruin the cylinders?

The cylinder block doesn't have any bolts or other fasteners holding it in place. There are aluminum locating dowels on each end. Lots of times, these things get out of round as the only real way to remove them is to use vise grips and someone may have deformed them and then stomped the block down over them while they are slightly out of round.

When I find this type thing happening, I use a flat bladed butter knife I have the tip squared off and sharpened and use it to carefully pry the block a bit... the gasket may have some gasket goo but they can stick even without it. I pry towards the back and once I get the blade in between the cases and block, I tap it in a bit with a small hammer and work around the base in that way to get it started loosening. It will come off and isn't bolted on. Generally, a few good whacks with a rubber hammer will get it moving loose but if that doesn't do it, some prying is in order. DO NOT use a screwdriver or something thick because that will damage the block and upper case.

Probably major corrosion between the studs and the block effectively welding it stuck to the studs. Have you put penetrating oil ect, down the studs?

321,000 miles on KZ's that I can remember. Not going to see any more.
