A friend of mine has an earlier kz1000. Which is ironic because it is currently in about 1000 pieces. The motor is locked up pretty good. The previous owner had the motor out, head off, and filled the cylinders up with ATF to try to unsieze the cylinders. IT is nearly impossible to pull the cylinders off of the pistons. Do any of you have any tricks for taking apart a locked up motor.

And he has big plans for it, so no worry if cylinders/and or pistons are ruined.

The usual reason for this problem is someone left the carburetors off the bike and it sat outside and water got in the combustion chambers. The water then ran down the cylinder liners and water sat atop the pistons. Rust occured very quickly and got into the liners deeply and now the block won't come off.

ATF may not do the trick. Use Kroil or PB Blaster. I use the latter as it is readily available in Walmart. Let it sit over night. Since the cylinder block is toast, the main issue is to not ruin the crank/con rods. The next day, torch/heat the cylinder liners around the piston crowns. When you are able to get a wedge under the block, use pry bars to pull it upwards and over rough spots in the liners. Make sure you move from side to side when you do he block-pull.

As soon as you can get some clearance, use a 1x4 to provide a lever point on the engine cases so you don't ruin them. You will need a new block I guess...
