KZ650 Std Rings? was created by Avenger
I'm in the process of rebuilding a 1977 KZ650 and can't find standard size rings that won't break the bank? I've tried everyone that came up through Google and was only able to find one place at $50 a hole.
Anyone have any suggestions?

You found some 650 standard rings? I thought they were unavailable, except for ebay, etc. If they are quality rings you may not have much choice! A complete standard set came on ebay awhile back and went for over $200! Good luck... :)

I guess I know why the guy gave me the bike. I thought they made a ton of these bikes and parts would be available. Am I wasting my time trying to bring it back to life? Heck if I can't find replacement rings for less than $200 I'll probably go into shock once I start going through the electronics.
Might be time to sell it for scrap metal.

No,no... There are lots of parts around! Having an old bike no matter what brand it is, is a passion for that old bike. Granted, I bought mine brand new so mine is in great shape. But bringing one back to life is great. Almost anything you need WILL show up on ebay. Just takes awhile. The electrics on these bikes are fairly simple, you can get wiring harnesses on ebay all the time. Go ahead and browse ebay and see all that is available, takes time for the perfect part. Some guys here have been rebuilding thier bikes for a couple years. Plus, this site is the greatest for rebuilding, so much knoweledge here and parts to boot! Please don't give up. I can understand the financial aspect of parts sourcing. A little at a time. Trust me, when you fire that thing up and when you go down the road the first time, it's a feeling I can't describe. Especially when you did all the work! Got a pic of the bike?? We like pictures..hang in there. Let us know... John

I know the feeling, I searched for a long time and never did find std rings, I did get a set off fleebay and it was over 200 bucks for OEM rings, I just kind of figured step up to the plate cause you aint gonna find them any place else.

I guess I'm the impatient type. I've rebuilt a bunch of much older british bikes and never had a problem finding stuff I needed at a reasonable price. I did my '65 750 Matchless a while ago and new pistons, rings, wrist pins, gaskets, etc. were under $100.

I'll hang in there and see if I get lucky. Is there a way to cross reference parts to see if any other model's stuff will work? For example my Matchless used a lot of the same motor parts that the Norton did.

I tried to attach a pic of the Matchless just for grins but it was too large.

Thanks guys.

Avenger, these might be worth checking out. Oversize rings are easier to find and much cheaper!
