gaskets was created by squints
i replaced my alternator and got a new gasket for the cover. I reinstalled the cover with the new gasket and after ridnig for a day or two I noticed a slight drip coming from the cover. Is there something I should've done to the gasket before installing? Since it was just a little drip here a little there I didnt worry about fixing it until now, I dont want a puddle in the shed come spring. :S

In the mean time while you are waiting for your new rubber plug to arrive, pull the cover and degrease the rubber plug then coat liberally with permitex no 2, the black sticky stuff. Worked for me....chris3
Forgot to saw cover the wires where they go through to rubber plug too....chris3

If you had 1 little piece of the old gasket left from not cleaning the old gasket off.. that would cause a leak. I use "Gasket shellac" on all my paper gaskets. Its kinda like a bicycle tire type looking sealer for gaskets. Never had a leak. RTV Blue and most rubber type gasket sealers are ok, but some are not good for heat, gas, oil. The cheap gasket shellac works great on most everything and never have to worry about leaks when the parts get hot.
