650-750 cam help was created by nfswift
Hi, I just noticed an interesting ebay auction and I could really use an experienced wrencher to give me some feedback on how possible this swap could be.

The listing is for 750 "dragbike" cams and I obviously need specific details before making a move on it but I could really use a hand. Could anyone drop me a PM? I'd really appreciate it.

Thanks

Hi nfswift. Some ebay listers use a variety of descriptive words to list their parts. This bigger net pulls in a wider range of viewers to their listed items. This is very common on ebay. If I am not mistaken the cams listed are from a 1982Kz 750 that is being parted out and in the actual product description it doesn't say anything about drag bike parts.

To learn more about 750 cam options for your 650 use the kzr archives and type in 650/750 upgrades or 750 cam choices. There is a ton of info on cam options. Here is a good link to check out.

Yes, that is the auction reborn. He just listed them as taken out of a 1982 KZ 750 "drag bike" so I assumed these must be aftermarket cams. I already asked the seller to be sure but once I know the specifics (assuming that he can provide them) I need to find out what cams swap easily into 650s and what ones need work.

I am looking for ones that drop in basically, and I have the ideal top end as far as that mod goes as my 82 CSR has a HYVO cam chain, however I am hazy as to weather my cams already are the same profile as the stock 750 cams of those couple of years (I seem to remember reading that).

KZs are pretty interchangable and camshafts are definitely a science to themselves so I need to learn more of the basics about profile, lift and duration before I purchase aftermarket cams. It was simply an auction that looked like it could be a real deal in my price range right now (the virtually non-existant price range heh heh).

Basically what I'm looking to hear (once I find out exactly what kind of cams these are) is a definite "yes these should work fine without any actual modification aside from the obvious tuning" or "no these cams will require sprocket work and possibly more before they could be adapted to the 650" or alternately "these would be impractical for any street use"

I'm only really looking for a fair amount of power out of my 650, definitely enough set it apart from a stocker but still reasonable and reliabile/streetable for every day riding.

I hope me being less vague is more helpful and that I don't sound too demanding and ignorant about cams heh heh  Thanks for that link to read too, unfortunately my delving into the filebase hasn't really turned up anything.

The eBay seller does that with all his parts, just trying to get more attention. I'd be willing to bet those are stock KZ750 cams, nothing special about them. If they were aftermarket he would have put it in capital letters :D

Here is an example of one of his auctions:

Yea, I noticed that looking at his other auctions... Murphys Law says they are stock but if he gives me aftermarket specs though would be a steal.

Heh heh heh... dragbike turnsignals.

Sorry, these are stock Cams from a KZ750. Not aftermarket. I do not know the duration or lift. The bike was not a dragbike, this was used in the title for search purposes. As far as the history of the bike, I do not know the mileage but it ran perfectly and was completely stock.

So seeing as these are stock 1982 KZ 750 cams is there any point in throwing them in my 650? Would there even be a notable difference? Are these the exact same cams as mine? Hah.
