In the process of rebuilding my '82 CSR, I purchased a replacement head assembly that came complete with a set of stock CSR cams. So now I have two sets of stock cams for this bike.

Today, I just happened to be browsing E-Bay, and I saw a listing for CSR cams. I was thinking about selling my extra set, so I was going to watch it to see what it went for. But in reading the description this guy had for the cams, he wrote that you could put these cams onto a '73-80 model, just need to get a set of APE conversion sprockets. He wrote that these cams give you 0.020" more lift, so better performance.

So I got to thinking about the possibility of putting these cams onto my '78.

So that brings up a couple questions.

1. Do these cams truly have 0.020" greater lift?
2. Would that make a noticeable performance difference?
3. Can I just take the sprockets off of my stock B2 cams and bolt them onto the CSR cams?
4. Anything else I should be aware of with this operation?

Thanks.

you'll lose powah, as they dont have as much duration as kz cams (i think) the 82 csr/ltd's made 92 hp wheras the 82kz standerd made 102hp with different cams and carbs.

I think Skyman is talking for his 78. Check the lift for comparrison with a mike or calliper first before you go threw all the trouble.

Yes, I am talking about possibly putting '82 M2 (CSR) cams on my '78 B2.

I can mic them, no problem. I think I understand how to measure for lift--that's just a measurement of the total height of the lobe, right?

How does one determine the duration? Do I need to mount them and use a degree wheel for that?

Assuming the information from that EBay seller is correct--that these cams do give an extra 0.020" of lift, what would that potentially do for me. Is it worth the effort?

Sorry if these are stupid questions, this is uncharted territory for me.

Twenty Thau is quite a bit. Even if the duration is less than the orryginal, which I doubt, it would only give you a wider powerband.

I believe that the CSR cams already come with the two bolt sprockets vice the older 3 bolt. You must get a conversion sprocket or make one. (TWO)
