If you don't have a problem, you're probably fine. Whatever clutch you have was probably meant to work with the springs you bought. The slipping I experienced (with OEM springs)was immediate. So I ordered the springs which were meant to work with the aftermarket clutch and it was noticeably stiffer... not fun in city traffic.

Not familiar with the bike owned by tjettim, but can the cable be adjusted anymore?

Slipping clutches will normally show up in a higher gear, under full throttle passing, or whenever under load.

Amazing how long the stock clutches last. This is a good reason to use motorcycle-specific oil, but we're not going bring up THAT topic.

I was talking to some dude about my mildy slipping clutch, and he said you could just lap the steels on some eighty grit emory cloth and get good results.
Anybody here tried that?

The problem with the many cheap fixes isn't
clutch slip but how the clutch engages. With
the tire/engine combo I have you have to be
able the feed the clutch in gradualy over the
first 10-15 yards, keeping the tach right at
5 grand to get the perfect hole shot.If the
clutch grabs to soon it will spin, bog. or want
to flip over. The Barnett plates grab and chatter
and the cheap ones slip and then slip all the time
after a couple of launches.Stock plates and HD
springs have been the best setup.I have been using
them since 1978,so I guess I am used to them. Most
stock bike clutches feel a little wimpy to me.I
have had several brands of springs.Apes are not
the stiffest, but have held up well.

Nothing like trying to launch with different products. If you know what works for you, and is consistant, then fibers only. Inspect the clutch basket fingers for grooves from the plates. Lightly file down the wavy ridges for smoother clutch release action.

Just don't use Barnet clutches unless you pull the oil pan fairly often. They dump short fibers in your oil that will clog the oil pick up screen (and the Turbo if you have one). GPzInfested's 750 Turbo had a Barnet clutch in it, and having read the warnings we replaced it with a stock clutch (sand blasted used steels first) and dropped the oil pan. Sure enough there were lot's of fibers on the pump pick up screen (thankfully not clogged yet) and a bunch of broken clutch plate parts in the pan. Now we are looking at a turbo rebuild or an upgrade :(

Yeah, it helps to have things clean. If the friction disks fall within specs and it's slipping, you should at least replace the springs (in addition to sanding). They're cheap and may be all that is needed. Sanding the plates to take the glaze off will help the release and you'll get less of a "clunk" when going into first from neutral.
I use 400 grit just to take the shine off. 80-grit seems a little rough, but I haven't tried it.

Also, stack the clean plates. If any don't lay flat in the stack, replace it. Same goes for the friction disks.

I take my clutch apart every spring and check for flatness on the steels. I then deglase them using sandpaper(not sure what grit...whatever I have around as long as it isn't too coarse or fine). I then wipe off the fibers and sand them down. I was at a race last year and the burn-out went ok but when I launched, it was VERY evident the clutch was slipping. I went back to the trailer, took out the clutch, sanded down the steels and fibers and re-installed it. Next run, the thing hooked hard and pulled the front wheel. Night and day difference! I use stock plates and stock springs in mine and don't have a problem. Tried HD springs and hated the heavy pull and went back to stock springs. So, my clutch is completely stock. I just sand the plates to deglaze them from time to time. You can feel the difference after you do.
