Cam Chain Adjuster spring replacement

Has anyone had success in refurbishing their auto adjuster by replacing the springs?

The topic has been run through many times, re manual vs. auto adjuster, but no one seems to have gone this route.

Mine is no doubt slack, I can hear the chain rattling away in the rear of the top end.

For modest outlay, ($6 plus shipping) I'd like to try it, but if I'm heading down the garden path I'd sure appreciate the bennefit of your experience.

Thanks

Not sure if it's the same springs or not, but Bike Bandit shows stock on both for my 550
