Stator cover? was created by Bluemeanie
I know there is a classified section but I think it might work better here? Cannot locate one of these on ebay (all older ones) Anybody have one that is in good shape that can be polished up?

These are a bit pricey, but I thought you might find them interesting as they both claim to be from '79 KZ650s. And yet I've seen other '79s that are smooth (no ribs). I wonder if different models had different covers.

Here's one that claims to be an '81:

Then there is this "bargain"

I've got one here that will work for you. Do you need the stator too or just the cover? I'll hang onto it for you until you are ready for it and then we can work something out. I'm sure there are other things taking up your cash at the moment.

All the 650s I've ever seen or owned that were 77-79 models all used the plain cover. In 1980 on the KZ650s and 750E they started using the cover like the $139 pictured one. I doubt the stator from an early cover would mount to a late cover or vise-versa.

321,000 miles on KZ's that I can remember. Not going to see any more.

650ed, Where did you find those? I've been looking under KZ650 / parts & accesories and KZ / parts & accesories. I've been living at these two places for a month and you pop up these!? What are you looking under??

Bluemeanie,

I went to eBay.com; then next to "all categories" I plugged in:

cover (stator, generator, left) ("z 650", "kz 650", kz650, z650)

Give it a try, you should see an additional one out there that is just a little expensive (unless you hit the lottery):

650ed... Tried it and works great. Never thought about looking for an "item" by itself. I thought all old KZ parts would be grouped together where I was looking. Thank you... John (brain dead) :woohoo:

JMKZHI... I wish it was. That was just for demonstration purposes. Mine is in pic below. But thank you for painting tips! :)

Also (I assume you know the 77 system is totally different), but the stators are either 3-phase or 1-phase (like yours). The way to tell them apart is the 3-phase has 18 legs on it while the 1-phase has 12 legs. If a 3-phase will fit physically, you can use it with the rotor for a single phase and vice-versa as long as the spacing is the same and the gap between rotor and stator are similar (bigger gap = weaker charge).

I don't really know if 3-phase stators are the same size as 1-phase or not. (I think they are in the 550 family so maybe they are in the 650/700/750 family too.)
