Re-freshing 74 Z1-900 motor

Ok, in a few week's the 900 is coming apart to be fully restoredB) B) . I wanna refresh the motor internally. She only has 20,000 miles, i know i need to shim the valves, and i think it needs valve seel's cause it smokes a bit, but dosent use a significant amount of oil. Know i was reading that i should replace all the cam chain related rubber parts, is this info right? If so were can i get them. I want to keep the motor stock. If anybody has any info on this please let me know, it will be greatly apreciated.

You might think about a new set of rings also. It won't hurt and will ony cost another $100 or so. Replacing all the rubber cam chain parts will require taking off the cylinders anyway so you might as well do it while you have it apart.

What you have read and heard is correct. All those little hard rubber dampners get rock hard and brittle with age and heat. Mine looked just fine, until I looked a little more. ROCK hard with small cracks !:pinch:
The last thing you want is a $3-5.00 internal timing/ cam part going bad on you and smoking your engine.
While you are in there, check EVERYTHING!!!! When in doubt.. REPLACE IT! You will be glad you did in the long run.
Are you restoring your bike as you said, or rebuilding/ refreshing it??
Two completely different things;)
