Oil cooler was created by ricerocket
I recently installed an oil cooler from the Oldkawman.
I now have 4.7 litres of oil in my bike. But since i installed it i hace a bit of smoke at startup for a few seconds.Till it gets a little warm. But i also installed dyna s ignition and coils aswell.
Any thoughts on this?

Any chance there are some loose fittings or leaks on the cooler lines letting oil drip onto the exhaust or the motor?

It sounds like valve guide seals.
Make sure after the bike sits overnight
that the oil level in the window is not
too high.

Ok there is an extra litre of oil because of all the lines and cooler.he told me to add. Also are you supposed to check the oil when the bike is running or not?

Rice. I run enough oil in my motor so the level is just below the top of the sight glass. I run a cooler too. Seems to be no problem running mine this way. Check your oil with the bike level( I know it sounds dumb but I place a 6inch level across my bars and have someone read my sight glass while I hold the bike level), not running, and maybe a little warmed up(remember to let the bike sit for 5-10 minutes before checking)Hope this helps. Maybe you should get yourself a Kawi manual, they are cheap on ebay

So, you have a 1 quart oil cooler? 3.7 is standard. Check the oil level when warm and idling, and see if it shows on the sightglass. This might be an indication you have too much oil when running. Just asking about this amount, not saying it's too much. If someone with experience in this oil cooler has told you to add that much, then OK.

Proper oil level check is like Barney said, when the engine is off and after warmed up. You should see the level in the sightglass., but wil that added oil for the cooler, you might not.

Oil smoke at startup? You sure it's not a rich condition? If it is oil smoke, could be an indication of leaking valve guides. Wipe your finger inside the exhaust muffler end, and see if you get soot or a slight coating of oil.

Well it didnt smoke before the oil cooler and i did add the dyna coils and ignition at the same time.
If the timing is off would that make it smoke a little.

If the valve guide seals are leaking, not only would you notice the oil smoke on start-up (more when cold and after sitting overnight), but the spark plugs would be a little on the dark color, as the oil would be baked on it.

If you remove the header, in the exhaust ports and head pipes, you'll notice the black oily residue. If it's powdery, like soot, the that's a rich condition.
