new to street bikes...low mileage? was created by xr350guy
Hey guys, im new to the street bike scene, and have only been riding dirt bikes without speedo's. This 81 kz440 that i picked up has 13,000 kms on the odometer. Is that alot for a street bike, average, or hardly any? Thanks guys....

That's only 8,000 miles Max, which is hardly any. One of the guys here has/had 165,000 miles on his 650. You sure got a great deal for the price you paid:laugh:

I have a 79 KZ750 twin with 143,000 miles on it and it runs good the only thing really wrong with it is the starter clutch quit so I just kick start it, I have been gathering parts for a redo but some time in the future. Other bikes I have don't have as many miles but run good also 74 H1 10900, 72 honda CB350 11,400,78 KZ650 23,400, 70 H1 3300, 76 H1 4200 75 H1 48,000, I found that there were a bunch of little things wrong, fixed them and tuning and oil change made for big improvements, I have found that if the bike was treated decent mileage didn't make much difference, but expect to do something to it

Welcome to KZR.
13000 kms is nothing on these bikes, as long as they've been taken care of. If you keep up the maintenance your bike should last a long time.
I bought my '78 in '84 at 18000 kms. I now have 54000 kms on her. That's with her being parked for over 10 years and brought back to life.

oh, wow.....i guess thats pretty good then....the last time my uncle had it on the road was in 92' and the only damage ever done was it got dumped on its side cause my cousin (his son) thought he could ride it LOL. When I got it, all it needed was a battery and the carbs were gumed and stuck. My dad actually timed me and it took me one hour and forty five minutes to get it running properly.
