Well the motor I wanted has been sold. Now I need to know if the 83 and or 84 gpz750 motors will fit in my 82. Yeah I know anyhting will fit if you have the money. :P I want to drop it in the frame in an afternoon and ride it. No wiring mods, exhaust clearance, tank fab stuff. Just drop in and fire it up. The guy that sold the gpz motor I wanted says the kz750 motor will fit. I don't care about going fast on this one i just want it to run good and look good. Anyone have any insight?

The only thing that won't be plug and play that I can think of is the clutch cable setup. On the 83 and later GPZ 750's they abandoned the clutch pushrod setup and went to a thru the clutch cover setup. You would need to get a new clutch cable or I suppose you could swap all the covers and pushrod setup off your old motor on to the later one. Also on the later engines they used a different type of electronic ignition setup so you would have to use your existing ignition parts. Other than that I see no problems using the later motor.

Edit: I just thought of one other difference the later GPZ's also used an offset countershaft sprocket, no big deal but you will need to change it to the sprocket you currently have.

Sounds simple enough. How about putting an 1100 motor in? Damn I just wanted a daily rider. :woohoo:

I have an 82 GPZ 750 finished in the Ediie Lawson colours if you want to buy it.
My wife is wanting her kitchen counter tops and she keeps walking past them in the garage; lime green is not her colour of choice.

I'm not so sure about installing your stock sprocket on the GPz750 motor.
We installed a 83 GPz750 motor in a 79 KZ650 SR and had to use the offset sprocket, and Ten6 installed a KZ750 motor in a 83 GPz750 frame and had to use the KZ750 sprocket. So I think you are going to need the offset sprocket on a GPz750 motor in the KZ750 (or 82 GPz750) frame.

The 1100 motor will not be a bolt in, it's taller and the motor mounts are different.
It's possible, but if you can do the swap and get it running in one day, then my hat's off to you :)

Sprockets are not a problem I was going to get new ones and a chain anyway. So do you know what years of kz750 motors will fit in the 82 gpz frame?

I do not know a whole lot about the mechanics of the bikes, but I have been told on good authority that 82 was the last year for the KZ; the gpz750 was a KZ750 R1, so their might be more differences. You might try Geoff at Z1 enterprises, they really know their stuff.

All KZ750 4 cylinder chain drive engines (i.e., 1980-83 KZ750H LTD, and KZ750E STD models) will mount into your 1982 GPZ frame, as a simple bolt-in. There may be some slight cosmetic differences, but those are not going to slow you down in your installation, nor require additional parts. If you want it to look right with the GPZ frame, you will need to paint it black.

This is what I do for fun, not for work. It is art, with a little engineering thrown in.

Even the 83-85 GPz750 motors are bolt in.

I think even the (up to 2003 in US, 2004 in Canada) ZR7(S) motors will bolt in, but I don't know of anyone that has done it yet.

Feel free to be the first :)

Of course a 650 motor will bolt in also, and if you get a 80 or earlier you will have a kickstart :D

Steele, you laugh at the kickstart idea. I'll make it happen one day on my 84.

84 GPZ750. Modded with stock Kawasaki parts: ZR-7 shock, ZX-6 coils, GPZ1100 throttle, EN454 brake, GPZ900 fuse box, etc. and non stock: Ken Sears mirrors, K&N filter, Pirelli Sport Demons.
