Bike Is Dead Unless You can help was created by bountyhunter
$700 into the rebuild of the engine on my 1979 KZ750 B4 (twin).... already got the oversized pistons, bored the cylinder, ordered the valve guides, new valve oil seals, valves....

And I get the parts and there are no valve oil seals. They neglected to let me know that Kawasaki no longer sells them. I called the Kawi "customer dis service" line at 949-4609-5688 and talked to a completely brain dead girl who just kept saying they are discontinued.

No substitute part, not technical information available..... just brain dead.

can anybody steer me to a place that sells the oil seals or knows how to get some that can be jury rigged on to do the job?

I can not f----ng believe that Kawasaki has pulled this crap on me. The part guy at the dealer said that they were available because they were not listed as discontinued.

Like an idiot, I thought he actuall was telling the truth. And like an idiot, I did all the work thinking that I would be able to put the engine back together.

BTW, the Ksaki PN for the seal is: 92049-017

And another one :)

motorcyclesunlimitedtx.com/kawasaki10.html

Whenever you need a part, you can get the part number from
the parts diagrams at kawasaki.com, then do a search on
Google for that part number.

It's almost always worth calling Z1 Enterprises first to see
if they can get it though.

Thanks.

Already called Z1.

The Google idea is good, I thought I had already done that....

UPDATE: Old Bike Barn cross referenced the number 92049 - 017 to one of their aftermarket seals and has them in stock. They are $5 each, so I bought two sets.

Hopefully, they are the right ones.

Mostly, valve stem oil seals are not very unique. I use the sames ones on a Vulcan as I do on a KZ900, Z1, KZ1000, etc. Unless the guides on the twin are really different, I suspect you could use the same valve stem oil seals on your bike. The holes are 7mm on all the bikes mentioned.

That's how I was thinking as well.... but, the new valve guides just arrived. They have a groove milled in them that I assume mates with part of the seal. There is also a clip which wraps around it in that vicinity to keep it in place.

The dipstick at kawasaki customer service says the seals to that engine are different.... and they show no recommended substitute because of it.

Like you, I am thinking something of similar diameter could probably be jury rigged on and might work.

If I can't get the right ones, it may come to that.

Okay I just checked with my buddy at www.johnnysvintagemotorcycle.com/

He told me he has 22 of them in stock and they run $14.00 each and they are the genuine Kawasaki part. You might want to keep them in mind if the seals you ordered don't work out.
