engine problem! was created by jcote75
Hi,

Just had done a valve job on my motor and was getting everything together this week end.

Everything went fine. Align camshaft correctly at TDC.

Once all finish, I attempt to start the bike but it was running also oon two. The #2 and #3.

First' ive check the left coil since it's firing #1 and #4 and all test are OK and the plugs give nice sparks.

Check if gas was in the float and Ok in there.

Check the plugs and they are not wet.....

Can someone give a few clue where to check. Would it be possible that the timing is not right so #1 and #4 are not in position to pull gas in the head???...

Thanks in advance for your help.

If a cylinder has spark,does not run,and
the plug is dry,the low speed fuel circuit
in that carburator is not delivering fuel.
Check the float level,jets etc.

what was the reason for the valve job? was it running on all four prior to any work being done?

Just thinking there may have been an issue at hand before any work was started

I had problem with valve stern seal. Have them change and regrind all valve. I've change all shims to have the correct clearance.

Before I've done the job, #1 wasn't heating as much as the others both I had a valve that was tight (no clearance) on that cylinder so I tough I was loosing compression and that was the reason.

Would it be possible that timing isn't set properly which cause a lack of compression and not suffisant to vaccum gas trough the carbs?

I'ts funny that #1 and #4 had the same problem....

It is sounding like a carb problem, even though you have gas in the bowls, it does not mean it is getting to the cyl, you may need to pull the carbs and clean them and check all the jets and passages.
