kz 750 build! cams web/gpz? Head work?

I am working on the 810 kit currently, and I am undecided on what to do with the head. I was thinking about the street/strip cams from web. They are about $380, with an extra $60 for springs. Would other head work be necessary with this cam, such as clearancing? I would really like gpz cams, but in the last two years I have had no luck finding any. The guy at my local kawasaki dealership said he could order the exhaust cam, but the other is discontinued. If anybody has any, I will bay good money for them. Would timing be difficult when upgrading to either one of these cams? This is my first build, and I am only 17, so any help would be appreciated. I am really looking forward to getting this bike on the street!

Hey Jordan. I was searching for some Gpz cams back in the spring and ended getting a nice set from kawsakiman a member here on Kzr. Send Steve an email and see if he has a line on any other cams or a complete Gpz head. He is a real stand up guy to deal with.

Also, here are the emails of a couple of guys that had some Gpz cams a few months back. Steve Darlington is a member here on Kzr and currently has a bike on Kzr classifieds that he is parting out. I think that Ralph Hildebrandt checks in on Kzr once in a while. Both of these fellows have connections to get old Kz parts and should be able to track down cams or a head for you.

ralph1@sympatico.ca or darlington@webruler.com

My suggestion is to try to buy a complete Gpz head including valves, cams and springs if you can. The Gpz head is a bolt on to the Kz750 cylinders.

If you have any questions on this build let us know. It is young guys like you that will keep the Kz brand alive after most of us old timers have traded the rockin' Kz for a rocker:)

Thanks alot for your help, it is greatly appreciated. Around here all you see is V-twins, and all my friends have newer sport-bikes. I now have two kz's and for some reason I just love them, and cant get myself to sell them and get something newer,

On ebay there is a guy that has the handle "360partybus". He has a worked cylinder head off of a GPZ Turbo that never got installed, but is very nice work. The cams won't, from what I hear, they are regular 750 cams, but the head is done. That is, if he hasn't sold it yet.

84 GPZ750. Modded with stock Kawasaki parts: ZR-7 shock, ZX-6 coils, GPZ1100 throttle, EN454 brake, GPZ900 fuse box, etc. and non stock: Ken Sears mirrors, K&N filter, Pirelli Sport Demons.
