That new camera will come in handy during the tear down. Take lots of pics so you have some proof of how things should go back together. Label everything and put stuff in seperate, marked containers so nothing gets mixed up. Now is a good time to become Anal Retentive. You can not be too carefull or too clean during this job. Bike looks great. It does deserve a fresh motor!

It was harder fiquring out this camera than it was taking the bike apart. No problems so far.
Thanks for everyone's advice. I have new tensioner dampers and putting in a new cam chain. Was hoping not to split the bottom. Good idea about the seals. Espeacially since a whole set is onlt $20 and change from Jeff at Z1 Enterprises.
As far as being "anal retentive" Kawtoy..... if you look it up in the dictionary you will see my picture. Nothing will go back on the bike until it's clean and shiny new. Have a thing about that. Everything is in order or as my wife calls it "lined up like little soldiers". Here's hoping you see another picture.... Ride safe............B) B)

The rebuild choices really come down to how you ride the bike - cruising, commuting, canyon carving, or drag-racing it...

The nice thing about staying with stock compression pistons is the tune-up doesn't change. With higher-compression pistons you will generate more heat - this can become a problem if you ride in traffic or areas with constant high temperatures.

if you stay on the lower side of the compression scale you dont have to worry so much about fuel youll be able to run on 91 without having to worry about octane boosters and pinging, especially if you find yourself in the middle of nowhere !id definately split the cases and weld your crank replace cam chain ,anything else thats questionable as long as the bottem end is bullet-proof you can allways come back later and build a man eating topend if you cant afford do it all right now without having to screw with the bottem end again!goodluck, happy wrenching!
