valve cover bolts was created by hardr0ck68
on a 77 650 are all the valve cover bolts the same length? I have 4 longer bolts laying around that look exactly like the valve cover bolts only they are an inch longer.

It has been a long time since i have put a valve cover on....this is a happy day for me :P

I believe the 4 longer bolts will go in the ends of the valve cover. This is the 4 points where the rubber 1/2 circle seals are.

The diagram on buykawasaki for the 77 c-1 shows two valve cover assemblies, one of them has the reed valves. Do you have those? If so they have 4 65mm bolts and 4 22mm bolts to fasten them.

Check your engine side covers too, maybe you had one off for some reason?

On a 77 they are all the same. Reed valves were not used until 1979.

321,000 miles on KZ's that I can remember. Not going to see any more.

I have the allen head, stainless bolt set for my engine and all of the valve cover bolts are the same length and pitch.

These aftermarket bolt sets are very good in my opinion as they are easy to remove, tough to strip the head and they look pretty trick. I think that Z1 Enterprises offers them for the complete engine but if not, they can be found on ebay. Just check to make sure you are getting the full set including the long bolts for the cases.

Remember to put a little dab of anti-seize on the threads as this will save you some hassle years down the road.

Ok well i do not have the smog reed valves, so i do not know where these longer bolts came from.

I thought the hex head with #3 philips slots were only used on the valve covers. So i was wondering where the 4 longer ones like that go.

I am sure i will figure it all out when eventually.
