Stator cover was created by ricerocket
I have a small oil leak only when the bike is hot.It seems to be around the front of the stator cover lower area.i cannot seem to locate it I noticed the previous owner instead of a real gasket he used some blue type gasket maker. So my question is there any oil where the staor cover is ?Inside it i mean.

If you take off the stator cover there will always be some oil in there. Can vary from just a little to several ounces. I was never 100% sure if the oil was meant to be there or not. Some guys here have said it aids in cooling the stator. Whether that is true or not I don't know, but you should use a real gasket on the cover.

i know on my modern yamaha the oil has to be drained before the stator cover is removed. not sure about old kwaks though, mind you if its leaking i'd say you should try to get the proper gasket for it!

There is oil in it so don't worry about that. You should replace the gasket and check the gromet for the stator wires because those seem to leak a lot.

That kind of coincides with what I always thought. I really don't think by design oil is supposed to be in there, but some eventually leaks past the seals ect, and is trapped in there with nowhere to go unless it happens to leak. That was always what I thought. Other guys thought the oil cooling of the stator thing. Not trying to change thread just curious, stator cover off my 650, bone dry! 900's/1000's supposed to be wet?
