Didn't someone here mention once that sometimes a valve guide can be loose and cause a tick or rattle at idle ?

I had APE do my head and install new valve guides last year. That's not to say it couldn't happen, but I doubt it.

Suggest you find another KZRider member with a Z1, KZ900 or KZ1000 near you and compare notes. I doubt there is anything wrong. If clearances on valves are as they should be, they should make a clicking noise. A LOUD clicking noise could be the cam chain but there isn't much else there to worry about. Do you wear a helmet?

That's what I'm thinking George - it's just normal valve noise. The strange thing is it seems to be louder from the right side of the engine than the left. Maybe it's just me.

Yeah I wear a full face helmet.

I had the same "problem" and after pulling my hair out trying to figure out what it was I gave up and ignored it. 900 miles and still no issues...
