Got the 4-1 on my kz750 powdercoated about six months ago and it still looks great. The guy at the shop said it has a high-temp powdercoat and he had never tried it before. It has faded, and become more of a matte finish at the top by the head where the highest heat is at.

I wouldn't waste my time with that rusted pipe. My Kerker looked brand new, and my bike backfired and blew a hole through it... now $400 later, I'll have a new chrome megaphone & baffle. Kerker parts are pretty pricey the new system is around $600.00

considering the cost of a new kerker, if the thing is solid I'd do it. Just sand it and paint it with flat black grill paint from walmart. Total cost of your exhaust about $55 including the pipe ;)
I painted the header on my ninja, it smokes for awhile but the paint has stayed on.
