At the temperature the headers run.....powder coating would melt off. Looks a bit rusty. Maybe paint or a jet coating would be best. But with all the troubles...... you could probably purchase a new Kerker for the same amount.

Keep on looking, way too much work! Best use for that pipe would be on a piece of Yard Art.

Powder coating "melt off"???? Hmmmm i been powder coating heads, headers, cylinders and most evrything else on a wide variety of bike and auto motors and i have never seen it melt off. its way tougher than paint and unless chipped or scratched deeply should remain in good shape for years. The pipe in question looks to me like after a 1o or 15 dollar sand blast and a high temp paint job 5 to 10 bucks, would be a decent pipe for an econo bike or a race bike. decent pipes are hard to get for theese old bikes , especially for the vintage retro looking stuff. i dont disregaurd any of this old hardware any more. just to dam hard getting the cool parts from back in the day anymore. anyhow just my opinion...take care...jonnybiker

Powder coating is just plastic .
It "remelts" right around 400f .
If your BBchevy gets that hot ,the powder coat failing is the least of your worries .
You CAN NOT use it on the header system at all , maybe the muffler (but why bother)
I use stuff called "gun coat"

I need to chime in here and tell you all what I know. I've been powder coating rusted header pipes on cars for years. I use high temperature silver powder coating and it works great. No problems with discoloration or (melting). It can and is done all the time.
