Z1000J exhaust on a Z100A1?
28 Aug 2007 07:14
Hi,
I have first refusal on a nice Harris 4-1 exhaust for a Z1000J - but I have a Z1000A1.
Does anyone know if it will fit?
I'm not worried about brackets etc for the back end, but will it fit onto the head?
I've got an old rusty Harris on the A1 now and it has brackets welded onto the end of the downpipe to bolt them onto the head. The J downpipes have nothing. Does it just need some collets, or did the basic design of the head/fixings change?
Any help greatly received.
Thanks,
Bruce

Hi,
On reflection I think I was being too specfic with the Harris stuff.
Does anyone know in general what it would take (if anything) to get a 4-1 for a KZ1000J to fit onto a KZ1000A1 ? Is it possible?
Thanks,
Bruce

I believe it will fit the engine no problem.
It probably will work easily.
There is the possibility that you may have clearance issues with the brake pedal or pegs.

I have a J-model kz1000 ltd 1982 and it has studs with the collets and two split collars that hold the header pipes against the copper gasket against the head.
If yours has bolts versus studs you probably can do by just using studs.

Thanks all.
That's put my mind at rest - I shall hand over my hard earned money tonight.
