 I discovered today, that my chrome Kerker Megaphone has a nice finger sized rust hole in the bottom... hmm, no wonder the bike seemed louder lately...

The system is so nice, I'm wondering if it could be patched (a welded patch) without too much work, the hole is only visible with a mirror.

It looks like the Kerker's are still available but Vance & Hines are $100.00 to $200.00 less depending on where you find the Kerker. Does anyone know if you can get Kerker parts?

Any strong opinions out there  I do like the Kerker, and I felt pretty special having one.

in my opinion the kerker is second only to the old yosh pipes as far as looks and soundB) id clean it up really good and patch it ,clean up the rest of the header really good and put some thick wax on there to help protect it ;)

Still recovering, some days are better than others.

I have had both on my 1000. Like the looks of the vance but the collector hangs out to the right a little. The kerker on the other hand is tucked under the motor better. I took out the packing on the vance and now it sounds alot better. Even better then the kerker.

thanks for the opinions, I like my Kerker so much I'm hoping it can be fixed, I wasn't able to remove the megaphone today, not sure how much force to use, it's probably been on there for many years.

JoeK, I do know you can still get the Kerker baffle system and the end caps. I stripped the hole in my end cap and have a brand new (Dennis Kirk) one waiting on my bench. Still remember buying my new Kerker for $200!!

Thanks, it's actually the chrome megaphone that's blown out on mine, going to look into:
a) having it repaired
b) replacing it
Although I rode 150 miles today it's running better than ever, got 45 mpg on the first 77 miles using 1.7 gallons, I still can't believe that... so maybe a hole in the exhust isn't that bad :woohoo: sounds cool...

The quality on the VHR pipes has went down
over the years. One would be near the bottom
of my list for a replacement header.

i am running the v&h 4-1 on my gpz 750 and i love it! but then again im partial to v&h. every aftermarket exhaust ive purchased was a v&h. replaced a yosh 4-2 with it on my gpz. replaced a kerker on my kz1000 with a vance too.

i'm running the v+h 4:1 megaphone on my bike i bought new for 280$ off ebay, it sounds good and deep with the baffle out, and when you get on it it screams!

i like how the header collector is offset so i can change my oil/filter without taking it off.

You can Wax headers???!

I don't know if this was directed toward me or not, but all the Wax in the world wouldn't have stopped this system from rusting from the inside out, the bike sat for many years outside in the elements. I was having ignition problems, and I think it backfired once too many times...
