750 power plans. MANY QUESTIONS!!! was created by jordan
My bike is a 1982 kz 750. I just happened to pick up an 81 kz750 motor a while back for $50. Cheap I thought, but not sure what the going price is. Not sure of miles or history, but looks good and has good compression.
Well anyways my plan is to do the Wiseco 810 kit, and either a gpz cam or a web cam. Does anyone have any preference? Has anyone had any luck with a web cam, and how much did you pay?
I also plan on a header, and pod filters but that is the easy part.
This will obviously require rejetting. Can I just rejet the stock 750 carbs or do I need to invest in aftermarket carbs? Also would it be too hard to rig up a fuel injection system from a smaller sportbike and tune with a megasquirt programmer?
My last area of interest is what other power adding options are available, and what should be done to strengthen the motor. I have heard many people on this site refer to a welded crankshaft. How is this different than a stock crankshaft?

man, and here i thought i was the only one tricking out my 750. not really though. id go with the gpz cams and grab a set of mikuni bs34 carbs if you havent already got them. i dont know about the FI you want to do but i think its kinda over doing it for a bike this age, but maybe someone on here can shed some better light on it. ape has some things you might be able to use, like the heavy duty cylinder studs, but i also dont think you really need those unless your compression is really up there (12:1). crank welding is common for strengthening the bottom end but unless your drag racing i dont know if youll need it for your app. nevertheless, im no pro by any means on this site and should not be taken as the gospel truth. scour the forums and keep asking! good luck.

I have been told by many to just get a 1000, but I love my little 750's!!! About the welded crank, can this be done by a local welding shop because It was recomended to me because I thought about adding just a tad bit of nitrous:evil:

I have a hopped up 650 and I did what your doing only on a smaller engine. A lot of people here doing the 810 build are using the GPZ cams and like them. Welding the crank is only on the 900 cc and up bikes that have roller bearing bottom ends. I have some nice porting on my 650 and think that's where the power really comes from with the other mods. No idea on the FI set up, but I bet it's getting easier and easier with computers.

see reborn 650's build.
he used the gpz cams and loves them. the only problum i know of is there is no drive for the tach so you need a electronic one if you want to run one.
he also used the 29's on his.
my advice is to spend most of your money (after the piston kit) on head work like porting and cams.
the cylinder head is the biggest restriction in any engine.
the old saying is:
"can't go if it don't flow"

someday i will be able to afford my kz habit.
