cant pull the clutch in was created by rubbercity
recently bought a 80 ltd 650 and it needs a little tlc. checking it out i found that i cant pull in the clutch. i thought the cable was froze up so i pulled the side cover off the motor to get to the end of the cable. the cable moves freely. the push rod will not go in though. what should i check now.

Well, I suppose it could be that the clutch basket is corroded together... depending on exactly *how much* TLC it needs...
So, with a spare gasket for replacement, it might be time to open up the other side to look inside at the clutch...

Maybe it is stuck.
You might drain the oil and see if water is in it.

Well... i just pulled apart my engine the other day and made a REALLy stupid mistake... the 'pushrod' on the kz250 that comes out of the engine case needs to be pulled up about 1.5cm in order to properly contact the internal pushrod... and i had to pull the RH side of my engine off to discover this... try pulling your 'external pushrod' up and out... then put it back down, twisting every few millimeters to see if it engages the internal pushrod.

thanks for the responses fellas. i did what everybody said. i was able to pull the push rod out so i shot some pb blaster in the hole and i took the clutch cover off and sprayed some blaster on the clutch and was able to free it up. i think the disks are still stuck though. ima get a new gasket and put some oil in it and see how it goes. the clutch is free but really hard to pull in would puttin some grease on the push rod make it a little easier? thanks again.

If you already have the clutch cover off, I would take all the plates out and clean and inspect them. Odds are good that your plates were stuck together and it is also possible that the steel plates may have some rust built up on them. You only have to remove 5 more 6 mm bolts in order to do this. If you run into any problems I'm only 10 minutes away from you and you already have my ph#.
