Your piston rings might have given way.
Have you done a compression test?

It is simple, your motor is now
a piece of crap.
Could be a broke piston ring if it
started all at once. That is what
happened to mine this spring.

if its burning that much oil it has got to be way down on power, as stated run a compression check, then check the valve adj, you need some type of baseline in which to start with

It might help to pinpoint the problem if you indicated if the oil was coming out of the crankcase breather or through the exhaust.
If it is coming out of the exhuast, as mariozappa mentioned, do a compression check first. If your compression is up in the 140 + psi range you should be good. The spark plugs might give you an indication if there is one particular cylinder that is causing problem. If you have a real sooty/black plugh I would suspect valve seals might be a possible cause of the oil burn.

Has crankcase oil been checked for possible contamination by fuel intrusion into crankcase?

How many miles on the engine and what exactly constitutes a $hitload? After 160,000 miles I was burning a quart every 200 miles. Is that considered a $hitload? I was basically changing my oil as I rode because it was about 13 quarts of oil used during every 2000 mile change interval. Bike still didn't smoke and ran good believe it or not. Oil was so sludged up it wouldn't drain last time I attempted an oil change. It was all a joke to me to see how far the bike would go.
321,000 miles on KZ's that I can remember. Not going to see any more.
