wierd hole in my engine! was created by wolfpakk
Hi! I'm in progress of bringing a old kz1000 mk2 to life again. Bought it with engine in a case and know nothing of its history. I have got it running but its far from complete. Now i need a few inputs about my crankcase... it has a hole as you can see on the pics. Need advise on what i should do about it.

Think I'd JB Weld a small, slightly bigger than the hole all around, piece of 18/16ga aluminium over it.

It's on all Z1 KZ900 / KZ1000 (77-80) engines...

...it's just a drain hole for any water sitting on the top of the cases.

I almost had it for free, they are not worth so much in Sweden. But its a nice bike and its pretty easy and cheap to repair. Think I keep it and maybe get a 1075 kit and other cams. B)

One of my fist bikes was 81 Yamaha Sega 550 with a 4 into 1 kerker. It had a about one cm diameter hole on the right side of the case towards the bottom. I tried JB Welding it about three or four different times but that hot oil would usually start leaking after a few weeks, making a mess of the bike and me, and smoking up. Finally, on about the fifth try I did something right and the JB Weld worked! That bike never leaked oil again. So I say, clean the area around the hole on your KZ real good and apply a good mix of JB Weld and the hardener and it should work.;)
