What engine is it?
09 Aug 2007 15:21
Trying to determine what engine I have in a bike. the # is KZT00AE010122. It has a 900 cam cover and is in a 900 frame(I think) and I am trying to figure out if it is a 900 or a 1000. Manufacture date is 8/76. Thanks for the help all.

the rest of bike might be a 76-early 77 900 but the numbers on engine case sound like a kz1000;)it could also be an early build 77 kz1000 bike, look on front right side of cylinder on motor(when sitting on it)if it says 1015 its kz1000,903 would be kz900.does it have a disc brake rear wheel?

that build date would make it a 77 900 if it has drum rear brake, they are pretty rare bikes.what kind of shape is it in?

It has electronic ignition, after market coils, and EVERY cover on the engine is chrome and in good shape. Even has a chrome rear axal, rear chain adjusters, and chrome front foot pegs and foot peg mounts. Nees a paint job and a seat and it will be really nice. I got it to clean up and sell and was SOOOOO hoping it was a 77 900. Seems going with my gut feeling was the right idea now doesnt it?

Ron is correct...at the very least, the cases are KZ1000...it may be that someone dropped a bigger motor into the 900 frame...a common 'upgrade' in the old days.
What is the frame VIN?

It is a 77 kz900 with a 1000 engine in it. Frame numbers are Z1F08xxxx. Is it worth finding a 900 engine and putting it in or just leave it like it is? I also found it has a small kit in it, their is 010 on top of the pistons. Not sure what size that makes the 1000 motor. Would explain all the chrome, electronic ignition, coils, etc though.
