i was just wonderind what kind of exhaust you have on your bike. I personally just put back on the stock 4 into 4 exhaust, on my 74 z1 900 and fell into love with the sound. I also have a 4 into 1 kerker header my dad put on in the mid 70's, and also a 4 into 2 jardines. On my 1977 kz650 i have a 4 into 1 vance and hines header with the baffle out, i have the stock 4 into 2's somewere in the garage. And on the kz400 i have mac headpipes with no muffler's, kinda sounds like a harley, people always look up when i ride bye.

On my 650 I have a Jardin 4 into 2, #1 crosses over so it connects to #4 on the right and 2 and 3 exit on the left. I like the sound a little louder than stock but far from being obnoxious.
Ride safe

I have a 4 into 1 Vance and Hines. It will be discarded in the future if I can find an old Yoshi , or if that fails I will get a new Kerker. The chrome bites on the Vance and Hines.....

Jardine makes a great looking 4/1 for the
900/1000.Good looking chrome.Costs more tham
a VHR,but I guess you get what you pay for.
You could send the VHR out and have it ceramic
coated,I am going to have my Racer One done
this winter.

Hey, that's a pretty sweet setup you got on your 1000 . Do you have any problems with over heating or oil seepage on that 1198?

I have a Kerker I bought in the '80s with a street baffle . It's headers are rusty, but it's still solid. It was quite the change from the open Yosh pipe I had on before. I'd like to get it ceramic coated.

I had Kerker on 3 of the KZ650s, one of which is the original 167,000 mile one which had a Kerker since day one. I think it's on it's about 4th Kerker now as the steel is nowhere near as strong and thick as Kawasaki parts, so they will eventually rust out and/or crack and the baffle will eventually fall apart from vibration. The other KZ650 with the 750cc engine runs real good and sounds good with a Kerker. I swapped back a stock Kawasaki system on the third 650, my everyday transportation. Getting tired of being carbon monoxided out from rust and cracks leaking exhaust and I can see clearly stock is definately the best way to go. Had a Kerker on one of the KZ1000s back in 1983 for 1 day. Well enough of this, back to stock there.
I really don't know if headers increase horsepower. Not worth it for that, only advantage I see is maybe 15lbs weight savings and easier cleanup of chain oil since no pipe on the left, plus the money thing as you can't buy a stock Kawasaki system unless you want to spend $1000 or more.
321,000 miles on KZ's that I can remember. Not going to see any more.

I also have a vintage kerker 4 into 1 but it is black instead of chrome. My dad put it on back in 76 when he bought the KZ900 new. I got it running again after sitting in my garage for the last 20 years.
I also had the stock chrome pipes in excellent condition. About 6 months ago I decided even if something happened to the Kerker I would find another Kerker and not put the chrome pipes on because this was the sound I remember while growing up. During my early and middle teen years I spent a lot of time on the back of the bike riding to other cities to watch Jay Springsteen win the flat track races.
I figured someone restoring an old KZ/Z1 could put them to use instead of having them still sitting on my shelf. Got over 1200 for the pipes, maybe from someone on here? Hopefully they helped to finish a nice restoration.
