J engine questions was created by riverroad
I might have the opportunity to buy a 1981 j engine.
1) Is it better than my 1980 engine?
2) Will it fit in my frame?
3) I know the J head will fit my KZ engine, but would it just make more sense to rebuild/big bore the J engine and fit it to my bike (provided it fits)? Or would it be better to put a 1075 kit in my bike and use the J head?

if your bike has origional motor in it it already has the mkII bottem end anyway.id say reuse your existing motor with the j-head and cam chain adaptor.just make sure to order around 12:1 piston kit for kz motor that way youll end up with something in the area of 10:1 with the j-head;)I might have the opportunity to buy a 1981 j engine.

Thanks Mcdroid, Plummen. Engine swap looks like more fab work than I'd care to tackle, so swapping heads and blocks would be the most logical way to go in my mind. Thing is, it's almost a complete bike, sans a seat and gas tank. Says he don't know if it works, bought it at a wholesaler. Wants 600 bucks.
So I can buy the bike with title, part it out and keep the head. OR find a tank and a seat for the J and sell it.
I'd jump all over this, but I don't have the room, my bike's a screamer as it is, and I'm having a hard enough time convincing my wife that my bike needs new rubber, much less start a new project.
